How much do impact windows cost in Tampa? (2026 permit data)
Those figures come from public building permit records, not a national average and not just our own jobs. Below them you'll find what Red Sky Exteriors charges for impact windows, sliders, and whole-home projects, so you can compare.
What local permit records show
Window and door replacement permits in Tampa Bay list the number of openings and the job value the contractor declared. We looked at 3,147 residential window and door replacement permits across four building departments: the City of Tampa and unincorporated Hillsborough, Pasco, and Pinellas counties.
| Area | Median job value per window | Middle half |
|---|---|---|
| All four areas (983 window-only permits) | About $1,955 | $1,525 to $2,500 |
| City of Tampa (351 permits) | About $1,975 | $1,500 to $2,500 |
| Unincorporated Hillsborough County (186 permits) | About $2,065 | $1,720 to $2,740 |
| Pinellas County (201 permits) | About $2,000 | $1,535 to $2,500 |
| Pasco County (245 permits) | About $1,770 | $1,420 to $2,265 |
| Job size | Median per window | Median total job |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 3 windows (231 permits) | About $2,375 | About $4,900 |
| 4 to 9 windows (495 permits) | About $1,925 | About $11,200 |
| 10 to 19 windows (217 permits) | About $1,720 | About $20,300 |
| Single entry door (132 permits) | — | About $4,700 (middle half: $2,700 to $7,000) |
Three takeaways. First, across all four areas, half of window-only permits fell between about $1,525 and $2,500 per window. Second, the median price per window drops as the job gets bigger, from about $2,375 for 1 to 3 windows to about $1,720 for 10 to 19, so doing the whole house at once usually costs less per window than doing it in small batches. Third, Pasco runs a little lower than Tampa, Hillsborough, and Pinellas, so homeowners there should expect quotes toward the lower end of the range.
What Red Sky Exteriors charges
Permit records show the market, but they don't show the product, the glass, or what the price included. Here are our own 2026 prices so you can see what's behind a number. Every price below includes the impact window or door, installation by our in-house crew, new wood bucks on block homes, the permit, haul-away, and project management.
Impact window prices per window
| Window type | Typical installed price |
|---|---|
| Small or bathroom window | About $1,750 |
| Standard bedroom or living room window | About $1,800 to $2,000 |
| Second-story, dormer, or roof-access window | About $2,100 |
| Large window | About $2,250 |
| Large egress (bedroom exit) window | About $2,350 |
| Oversized or colored aluminum (bronze, black) | About $2,400 to $2,600 |
Impact sliding glass door and entry door prices
There aren't enough single-slider permits to publish a reliable market figure, so these are our own prices.
| Door | Typical installed price |
|---|---|
| 6 ft impact sliding glass door | About $5,900 to $6,600 |
| 8 ft impact sliding glass door | About $7,150 to $8,000 |
| 12 ft multi-panel impact slider | About $11,400 |
| Impact entry or French doors | Quoted per door; style, glass, and hardware drive the price |
Sliders are usually the most expensive opening in the house, and often the weakest one in a storm. If your budget is tight, we'll tell you which openings matter most.
Our whole-home proposals
Here are three real 2026 proposals, shown without names:
- 13 impact windows, quoted together with new siding: about $26,200.
- 13 impact windows on a home that had 18: we combined several multi-window openings into single large units, including a jumbo fixed picture window across the back facing the pool. About $38,000.
- 8 impact windows and 3 impact entry doors: about $44,700 to $45,600, depending on aluminum or black vinyl frames.
Homes with several sliding glass doors run higher. One of our 2026 proposals, for 15 windows and 4 impact sliding glass doors on a New Port Richey block home, came to about $67,500. When you compare quotes, line up the products, glass, and what each price includes, not just the total.
What changes the price
- Size and style. Bigger glass costs more. Casements and picture windows usually cost more than single-hung.
- Frame and color. White vinyl and white aluminum are the most affordable. Bronze, black, and custom colors add cost.
- Glass options. Low-E insulated laminated glass, privacy (obscure) glass for bathrooms, and tints all change the price.
- Block vs. frame walls. On block homes we replace the wood bucks at every opening. Some companies skip that step; it's part of why quotes differ.
- Access. Second-story and roof-access openings take more time and equipment.
- Stucco and drywall. Some homes need stucco patching, trim, or interior returns after the old window comes out.
- Brand. We install PGT and ES Windows impact windows and doors, plus ProVia entry doors. Pricing varies by series and rating.
- Permit and inspections. Required in every city and county we serve, and included in our price.
Combining windows into one larger unit
Many older homes have openings with two or three separate windows side by side. You can replace them one for one, or replace the group with one larger unit, like a three-lite horizontal slider. That choice changes the price in two ways.
- The total can go down. One large three-lite slider is often less expensive than three individual windows, because there's one frame to build and install instead of three.
- The price per window goes up. That large unit still costs much more than one average-size window. It counts as one window on a quote or a permit, so a home with combined openings will show a higher price per window even when the total is lower.
If two quotes count your windows differently, compare the total for the same openings, not the price per window.
Ways to lower what you pay
- Insurance discounts. Impact windows and doors can earn opening-protection credits on a wind mitigation inspection. See what a wind mitigation inspection can save you.
- My Safe Florida Home grants. The state program offers eligible homeowners grants of up to $10,000 for impact windows and doors, usually as a $2 for every $1 match. Homes generally must be built before 2008, have an insured value of $700,000 or less, and meet income guidelines. You must have grant approval before work starts. Funding is limited, so check current status at mysafeflhome.com (Source: My Safe Florida Home program FAQ).
- Financing. We offer financing through Foundation Finance, including 0% options for qualified buyers. See financing options.
- Do it in phases. Start with sliders and the largest openings, then finish the rest later.
How to compare impact window quotes
- Compare the price per opening, not just the total.
- Ask for the Florida Product Approval number and design pressure rating for each unit.
- Ask who does the install. Ours are in-house master carpenters, not subs found for the week.
- Confirm the permit, bucks, stucco patching, and haul-away are included.
- Ask about the labor warranty. Ours is 10 years, on top of the manufacturer's warranty.
- Ask about lead time. Ours usually runs 6 to 12 weeks, depending on the manufacturer.
Frequently asked questions
How much is one impact window installed in Tampa?
Recent permit records put the median at about $1,955 per window, with the middle half between $1,525 and $2,500, across Tampa, Hillsborough, Pasco, and Pinellas. Red Sky's impact windows run about $1,750 to $2,500 installed, including permit, new wood bucks on block homes, and haul-away.
How much does an impact sliding glass door cost?
Permit records don't have enough single-slider jobs for a reliable market figure. In our 2026 Tampa Bay proposals, a 6 foot impact slider runs about $5,900 to $6,600 installed and an 8 foot slider about $7,150 to $8,000. Wide multi-panel sliders, like a 12 foot door, run about $11,400.
How much does it cost to do a whole house?
Permit records don't reliably show whether a job covered the whole house, so we don't publish a permit-based whole-house figure. Red Sky's recent whole-home proposals ran about $26,200 to $45,600, and more for homes with several sliding glass doors. The biggest factors are the number of sliding glass doors, window sizes, and frame color.
Do impact windows lower insurance in Florida?
They can. Impact-rated openings can qualify for opening-protection credits on a wind mitigation inspection, which many Florida insurers use to set discounts. The amount depends on your insurer and the rest of your home.
Do I need HVHZ-rated windows in Tampa?
No. The High-Velocity Hurricane Zone covers Miami-Dade and Broward. Tampa Bay homes need windows that meet the Florida Building Code for their location. See our HVHZ guide.
How long does it take?
Most products take 6 to 12 weeks to build after the final measure. Installation itself usually takes a few days; our crew installs about eight block windows or three sliding glass doors a day.
